About Lis Lowe

My experience and qualifications
I have a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), registration number 420670.
I work within their Code of Ethics to ensure all my clients are treated with dignity and respect. Here is a link if you wish to look at the framework.
I have spent 15 years working in the charity sector supporting bereaved children and adults. I have 2 years experience counselling in an organisation providing mental health support and wellbeing services.
My ongoing professional development includes Working with Suicide and Self Harm, Trauma Informed Care, Working with Sexual Abuse, Bereavement Support and a Level 2 Certificate in Children's and Young People's Mental Health. I keep up to date with safeguarding training and hold a current DBS certificate.
Before counselling I started out my career as a teacher (BA Hons) where I loved working with people of all ages and life situations. I developed an interest in emotional development and supporting children in their mental health.

Why I do this?
I know from personal experience the value of being given the space to be heard and explore feelings. I know that life has many challenges and having someone come along side you in a difficult time can be transformative. Sometimes there are things we can't share with friends and family or we don't feel we have anyone there for us. Counselling provides a confidential space away from everyday life to be able to start to untangle thoughts and feelings without worrying you are burdening someone else. You won't be judged or told what to do. Hopefully you will feel clearer, less overwhelmed, more free and empowered. I value people and I wanted to use my listening skills to make a difference. I aim to treat you with gentleness, integrity, and I have a genuine desire to listen to your experience. It is important to me to help you find your own answers.
Beyond my professional role, I find joy in creativity, music, and nature. These interests help me stay grounded and bring a relatable perspective to my work. I may bring creative elements into work with clients if they are interested in using them as it can be a helpful tool.
