Your questions answered

I understand you might have some questions before starting your counselling journey. Here, you'll find answers to common queries about sessions and practicalities.  My aim is to make you feel comfortable, informed, and to reduce any barriers to you accessing counselling.

Considering counselling for the first time can feel like a big step. I'm here to offer a warm, safe, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement. Healing and growth are possible, and I'll support you every step of the way.

Common concerns and practicalities

Starting counselling can bring up many questions, and it's completely normal to feel unsure. I've gathered some of the most common concerns and practical details to help you feel more at ease and prepared for your sessions with Lis Lowe Counselling.

What is the privacy policy?

Your privacy is paramount. Lis Lowe Counselling adheres to a strict data policy and is registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office), ensuring your personal information is handled with the utmost care and in compliance with legal requirements. Full details are provided in your client contract which will be availible at your first session.

What happens if I need to cancel an appointment?

If you cancel before 48 hours of your scheduled appointment, you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the session will still be charged. I appreciate your understanding in this matter.

What happens if I am late?

If you are late, your session will still end at the scheduled time. Unfortunately, the time lost cannot be made up as it impacts subsequent appointments. Please try to be punctual to make the most of your session.

Can I book a group of sessions?

I recommend booking one session at a time, especially initially. This allows us to build a relationship and ensures that the approach feels right for you. You are always welcome to book further sessions as needed.

Can I bring a dog?

I can only accomodate guide dogs or therapy support dogs in the counselling space. I appreciate your cooperation.

What is the accessibility like?

Please contact me directly to discuss your specific accessibility needs. I am committed to making the service as accessible as possible and will do my best to accommodate you. The counselling room is on the ground floor and there is an accesible toilet. Free parking is onsite directly outside the room.

For online sessions, do I need any special equipment?

For online sessions, you will need a reliable internet connection, a quiet and private space where you won't be disturbed, and a device with a camera and microphone (e.g. a computer, tablet, or smartphone). I will use a secure online platform, and details will be provided upon booking.

What about confidentiality?

What you discuss in your session is confidential. The exceptions are when confidentiality must be broken for legal or safeguarding reasons, as clearly outlined in your client contract. Lis Lowe Couselling adheres to professional ethical guidelines in this regard.

What if I want to stop sessions?

You are free to stop sessions at any time. The relationship between counsellor and client is vital, so if you find it's not working, please feel free to communicate this. If you want to discuss your reasons then you can and I can help you consider next steps

Is anything off limits?

An important part of counselling is that you feel safe to discuss any topic or bring any feelings you have to the session.

If you are looking for specific help with psychosis this will not be suitable.

It is fine to discuss addictions however if your goal is to overcome a specific addiction this form of therapy can't support that goal. Another more directive and targeted therapy will be more suitable to overcome specific patterns of behaviour. Person centred counselling might be a good first step in exploring what you do want and understanding the most important issues for you. We can discuss these things in our initial phone appointment.

If you are already having counselling with another counsellor or service please do not start counselling here until that finishes.

Are you ready to open the door to the possibility of a different future?
